My name is Jenny Beggs I am aiming to climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for two local charities, Assisi Animal Sanctuary and the Ulster Cancer Foundation. I am hoping to raise approximately £6000 through the climb, pet washing and car boot sales.

Assisi Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1995 to provide rescue and long term care for abused, neglected and abandoned small domestic animals. At any given time the Sanctuary is home to over 200 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs. The future of the Sanctuary depend on support from people and organisations like you.

The Ulster Cancer Foundation is Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity. Their vision is to see the day when cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. Their activities support this vision – from funding research into new and better treatments for cancer, undertaking education programmes to helping people reduce their risk of developing cancer.

In Northern Ireland, one in three people will develop cancer during their lifetime and around 9,200 are newly diagnosed every year. The Ulster Cancer Foundation, are there to help, especially at those difficult times by providing a range of services for patients and their families.

They can only succeed with your help and support - together let’s make a difference!

How you can help?

I feel that both charities need our support and I would appreciate any donations, sponsorship or old books, bric-a-brac etc.to sell at car boot sales.

At 5,896m, Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest mountain and the highest free standing mountain in the world. Snow capped and shrouded by clouds, the local Chagga people called it Kilema Kyaro meaning 'that which cannot be conquered'.

It is quite a challenge given that the eight-day climb takes me from scorched African bush land to Alpine landscape complete with snow and ice on the summit.

An adventure not to be taken lightly as each year up to 20 climbers perish on Kilimanjaro, often due to altitude sickness. For me summiting Kilimanjaro is a personal challenge that aims to help conquer cancer and improve care facilities at Assisi Sanctuary
