My story

My name is Jenny Wilson-Best and I have MS. This is my story.

I have been a professional opera singer for over 30 years. I’ve sung all over the world from America to Japan, to China, all over Europe, with Les Arts Florissants in Paris, La Monnaie in Brussels, at Covent Garden, English National Opera and here at home in Scotland with Scottish Opera. I have been very fortunate to have had a successful career doing what I love. I put this in the past tense as frustratingly, although I can still sing, I can’t stand or walk without great difficulty. In the past couple of years I have slowly had to accept that this must come to an end simply because my body won’t work.

MS is an extremely debilitating disease and can attack any colour, creed or class. It’s not easy coming to terms with such a life changing condition. Not so long ago I climbed most of the munros.....now I can’t even walk to the local shop. I was grappling with the enormity of it all until I went through the door of REVIVE MS Support.

REVIVE let me cry, let me be angry, let me be sad. They listened. Ultimately they helped me find the path upon which I could walk.

My dear friends at Scottish Opera are going to do a charity walk for meeee!! Scottish Opera management are giving their full support. My gorgeous friends and colleagues plan to walk between venues for the forthcoming performances of Tosca. They will walk from Glasgow to Inverness to Edinburgh to Aberdeen and back to Glasgow. That's over 600 miles!! Now....that HAS to be worth giving of your pennies doesn't it? Please give to this wonderful charity that helps so many people.

UPDATE: The walk finished on 15th June and the target was met in the nick of time! The walkers covered over 700 miles!! I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. Though the walk has finished the need for money for REVIVE MS Support goes on so...if you can spare a little something to help those with MS by donating here it would be hugely appreciated. Thank you. Jenny xx
