I am heading off on the adventure of my lifetime to climb the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. The adventure starts on Monday 21st September with the journey to Africa and the next day we start a 4 day acclimitisation climb on Mount Meru (14947ft) a neighbouring peak to Kilimanjaro.
After a night in a hotel (what luxury!) we set off on the 5 day ascent of Kili via the most challenging of routes on the mountain the Umbwe and Western Breach route. The summit will be reached on the morning of 30th September if all goes according to plan.
I have chosen to raise money for Transaid since I have been involved in the transport and distribution industry all my working life and this combined with the fact I am fortunate enough to be climbing Africa's highest mountain makes it a natural choice for a fundraising venture.
Please give generously so my blood, sweat and tears, hopefully no blood and not too many tears!! will help some people and communities on this fascinating continent.
