My story

Our aim is to raise enough money to buy desks, chairs and lockers for each of the 200 pupils at the Oasis of Hope school in Kisumu, western Kenya.

Oasis of Hope was set up to provide free education to children from the age of 14 who could not otherwise afford to pay the mandatory tuition fees for secondary education in Kenya. Most of the children have no parents - or do not live with their family. I spent a couple of weeks at the school last August and was really struck by the enthusiam, energy and appetite for learning in both the pupils and teachers. It's a great organisation.

For those of you in DWP, it was money raised by people in the department a few years back that helped to build the school in the first place. It would be fantastic now to improve some of the facilities.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you very much.
