My Sister Lynn & I are not experienced walkers or climbers, but a phone call from our cousin Sharon has led us into training for the "Welsh3000's".
This event entails climbing the 14 highest peaks in Snowdonia National Park and we will be starting from Pen-y-Pass on the 2nd July 2010 and taking the treacherous Crib Goch Ridge before peaking Snowdon on the Friday night, descending and then heading North over the Glyders Range including Tryfan and then up Pen yr Ole Wen before crossing the Carrneddau Mountain range, finishing on Foel Fras.
In total we will cover 54 Kilometres and hope to complete in 30 hours, however we will be allowing 36 as we spend one night camping.
The Christie is our Charity as in October 2006 my husband Dave was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Dave initially had chemotherapy and radiotherapy at The Christie. Following this treatment Dave's first surgery at a local hospital was un-successful due to size of the tumour, however having been transferred to the Christie, they never gave up and 6 months later the tumour was removed.
Unfortunately the cancer returned a year later and in November 2008 he lost his battle, the Christie gave my husband and I an extra 16 months from which I have wonderful memories. Without The Christie I would not have these.
Please give what you can; you never know when you, someone in your family or someone you know will need the help of this wonderful Hospital. It's in a class of its own!
Thank you Jill & Lynn
Sorry for not updating sooner, but im a bit rusty on here but will try my best.
So far we have been over to the south shropshire hills in beautiful sun shine, we also encountered some not so nice weather, we got soaked to the bones and blown to pieces, but figured we need to experience all sorts of weather!!
Snowndon has been conquered twice, once in silly weather in march where there was still plenty of snow on the ground and expert climbers with helmets, crampons, and ice axes! Not us, just our boots which we were breaking in!
The second visit was much nicer, however still alot of fog and low cloud around, we forgot about the cafe on the top so didnt take any money for a coffee, a quick chat with a lovely couple found us with a steaming cup each and a donation to the charity (thanks it was much needed and kept us going)
The sandstone trail has been walked quite a few times now, not in one go but in bits and pieces. The worst bit was being attacked by a llama, and no im not kidding.
Elider fawr and y garn was a long slow climb but nice weather on day one, the second time we did it (may) it was sleeting and then turned to snow so we played it safe and missed out y garn.
Thanks for following our story, and your generous donations

A quick update.
Saturday 22nd may saw myself and sharon heading off to the glyders and tryfan, lynn was working, a lovely hot day perhaps too hot for what we were to do.
We followed the devils kitchen route to take us onto the glyders, we filled our water bottles up from a trickle off the mountain it was so cold and refreshing.
The glyders were amazing and we met three guy's who were the 3000's (hopefully they have got through it and had a well earned pint), It was as hard coming down the glyders as going up, hard going on the knees.
Tryfan was in front as we came down and it was mid day so up we went. To me tryfan looks like a mountain with acne, my opinion has not changed now that i've been to the top. It's a big scramble and i led at one point, tryfan doesn't have a route up it's just find your own way. A couple of times i said to sharon which way? Her response UP UP UP and up and over boulders it was but at least you go up quick that way. Our next trip to wales is 16th june we will do the same route as today so lynn can experience the terrain.
cheers for your support

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!
It took us 15hrs on day one and it was alot tougher than any of us expected. We got soaked to the bones in the first four hours and it took all we had to carry on, we were all so down hearted and the weather and our spirits were so bleak. The clouds started to lift and we met family and friends at the only meeting point of the day and it gave us all the encouragement we needed.
The next section was tough as we knew it would be after leaving everyone.
Next came THE GLYDERS hated them in training and found it really hard, although lynn came into her own and stormed ahead. Tryfan to finish and on our way down to meet family and friends. We were all so pleased and tearful.
Into our tents for a few hour's sleep.
The weather was much kinder on the second day and the support team could watch us go up and up for ages. We just seemed to storm on. Goodness know's where we got our energy after the day before. (Maybe it was the bunch of soldiers we met doing their 3000's, although we couldn't keep up with them)
6.5hours later we were on top of the last peak. A group hug and a feeling of pride in what we had achieved.
2.5hour's to get off the mountain and to be greeted by a huge welcome party, more hugs and tears. Another 30mins and the corks popped on champagne bottles, bbq lit and then a well earned rest.
Thanks to everyone who has visited our page, made donations and especially the support team and everyone who was there to make it a brilliant ending to 6 long hard months of training.
Thanks again jill and lynn
Wednesday 17th november
Nearly a year since it all started and i now have the final figure
£2181.49.
A fantastic total for a couple of girls who had only walked dog's before all this started. We have been out to a couple of mountains since the challenge but now take our time and really enjoy ourselves.
Once again thank you all so much for your very generous donations to a wonderful charity.
