Dear All
The rather scary photo above is me posing in my new swimming wetsuit, not on a beach in the Carribean as you might think from the sun and sand, but in the far North West of Scotland. Decided after having done the Great North Run twice that running is not my thing ...it hurts too much and I'm not very good at it which makes me really grumpy. So this year's challenge is to take to the water for the Great North Swim - a one mile open water swim in Lake Windermere on 12 September.
So far the training is going well. I've been swimming regularly in Richmond and Skipton swimming pools trying to achieve alternate side breathing front crawl technique. Since July I've been doing weekly swims in Ellerton Lake with some other aspiring Great North Swimmers where I've been perfecting the art of getting in and out of my wetsuit, getting used to the cold water and trying to swim in a straight line without the help of swimming pool lanes!
I'm raising money for Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (again!) We exist entirely from donations and money raised like this is preferable to standing on street corners rattling tins - please give generously.
UPDATE 14/9/09 - GREAT NORTH SWIM COMPLETED IN 41 mins 5 sec
UPDATE 17/11/09 - have now collected in all my sponsor money £604.62 + tax relief raised so thanks everybody. Looking forward to next year now but don't worry I won't be asking you to sponsor me again!!!
Jill
