My Uncle Jim was a fantastic uncle, and his sporting enthusiasm was inspirational and encouraging to me. He loved cycling and rugby (despite both sports getting his shoulder dislocated, as well as other scrapes) and took his challenges head-on. He was also a keen follower of Rugby Union, and supported Bath RFC. Bath was his home for many years, as he was registrar of Bath University.
Jim had to scale down his activities when hit by a triple heart bypass operation. He retired to Bridport in Dorset, and kept up gym work and swimming - including summer swimming in the pounding waves of the Atlantic.
He died on Sunday December 20, 2009, in his Bridport home, leaving his two sons Mark and Adrian and siblings Annabel, Bob and Di. The British Heart Foundation is Jim's chosen charity for donations in his memory, as it provides support and research for people with heart conditions.
