Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Update 19/06/11: We began our attempt at 7:05am on Friday 17th June, and after getting very lucky with the weather (no rain!), completed the challenge at 5:51am on Saturday 18th June, 22 hours and 46 minutes after we began. Pictures to follow!!
Update 08/06/11: John and I completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Saturday 21st May in a time of 7hrs 44mins. Well and truly on target for the Nationals now!! Thanks for all the donations - we're hoping to smash our initial sponsorship target.
John and I will be undertaking the massive challenge of climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in the space of 24 hours (including travelling inbetween).
Ably assisted by support crew, Tracey and Lorraine, we begin our climb up Ben Nevis at 7am on the morning of Friday 17th June before driving down to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike, and then onto Wales to climb Snowdon, hopefully arriving back down off Snowdon by 7am on Saturday 18th June.
Approximate timings:
07:00 - 12:00 Climb Ben Nevis
12:00 - 18:00 Drive to Lake District
18:00 - 22:00 Climb Scafell Pike
22:00 - 02:00 Drive to Wales
02:00 - 07:00 Climb Snowdon
We are aiming to raise at least £1000 for Overgate Hospice. Based in Elland, Halifax, Overgate provides specialist palliative care for adults in the Calderdale area. All patients have a life-limiting, advanced, progressive illness.
Their aim is to care for the whole person in order to give them the best possible quality of life. They provide support for their families and carers, and treatment is based upon an approach that treats each person as an individual.
Overgate relies on fundraising events in order to continue to provide their excellent level of care, and further details about Overgate Hospice and the services they provide can be found at http://www.overgatehospice.org.uk/
In order to train fully for our challenge, John and Chris completed the Calderdale Hike on Saturday 9th April. A 36 mile walk through the local countryside, comprising over 6,000 feet of climbing in 12 hours, this was a perfect waystage en route to our ultimate aim.
The next training climb will be the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on Saturday 21st May. Encompassing the three highest mountains in Yorkshire, this involves a 25 mile walk, climbing over 6,000 feet. We are aiming to complete this in under 8 hours instead of the recommended 12.
Please give generously so that we can attempt what is sure to be a very difficult challenge in the knowledge that we have achieved our fundraising target.
