Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
As many of you know I started swimming at the end of May, hoping one day I would be fit enough to swim 100 lengths for the British Kidney Patients Association. For those of you who are unfamilar with swimming distances, a standard swimming pool is 25 metres, so 100 lengths is 2,500 metres, or 1.55 miles, or 2.5 kilometres. To put some perspective on the distance, a standard football premiership pitch is 106 metres from goal to goal, so i'll be swimming the equivalent of 23.5 times the distance of one goal to another! Considering I could only swim 2 lengths in May, it will have been 6 months of early mornings and hard training to hopefully complete this sponsored swim. I'm estimating a time of around 1 hour 40 minutes, although I would really love to be able to complete it in under 1 hour 30 minutes, but we'll see on the day I guess!
Many of you know that Peter (my other half) donated his kidney to his elder sister Hazel, and the British Kidney Patients Association was, and continues to be, a great help to everyone. For those of you who don't know much about the charity, the BKPA helps adults and children throughout the UK affected by kidney disease, providing information and advice as well as grants for those in need. The charity also provides funding for renal units to improve facilities for kidney patients and adventure holidays for children and young people with kidney disease.
The date is set for Monday 23rd November at 6.30am, yes that's correct, 6.30am! The date I've chosen to complete my sponsored swim is exactly 4 years to the day when Peter and Hazel were taken to theatre for the transplant operation, so it's a very special date and will hopefully spur me on when I'm tired.
Thanks you for taking the time to read through my page and thank you in advance for any donation you would like to make. It is much appreciated by myself and all our family. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The British Kidney Patient Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
