Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will be aware a group of us are climbing Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa in August this year and I felt it was an excellent opportunity to be able to raise some money for the Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds. As you may know the Coldstream Guards had their second, 7 month tour of Helmand Province in Afghanistan in September 2009-April 2010. They had a hard tour with the loss of 5 brave men, 5 double amputees, 2 single amputees and numerous other serious and minor casualties. I wanted to be able to give something back to them to show how proud I am of my husband Richard and the whole Coldstream Guards Battalion. They had a tough tour facing constant threats from the Taliban through roadside bombs and small arms fire while out on patrols. They faced this with bravery and courage, staying positive and where possible keeping up the normal levels of banter and humour. The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds gives assistance to all ranks of the Coldstream Guards, both past & present, their wives, widows, children and other dependants and will help the soldiers and their families to rebuild their lives and to live with the changes that have occurred over the past few years.
We are self-funding the trip as an opportunity of a lifetime and something we will remember (for good and bad reasons I expect) for the rest of our lives, so 100% of donations will go to charity. I hope you will support me in this challenge, helping me to keep going over the 7 day climb to be able to raise as much money as possible for the Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds.
