Story
In 2010 I was privileged to be invited to become a Trustee of Beating Bowel Cancer, a leading UK charity supporting bowel cancer patients and their families, working to raise awareness of symptoms, promote early diagnosis and encourage open access to treatment choices. The charity is truly a “loud voice” in influencing government policy and NHS practice.
Bowel Cancer is the second biggest cancer killer. Yet if diagnosed early, 90% of patients will survive. Many of you, like me, will know family members, friends or business colleagues who have suffered from the disease and you can get an idea of the immensely valuable work that the charity does by visiting www.beatingbowelcancer.org.
On 13 January 2014 I shall be embarking on a fourteen day cycle ride in Burma/Myanmar in aid of the Charity and I am writing to seek your support by sponsoring me at www.justgiving.com/John-Collard. This is a challenging ride of approximately 500 miles, much of it off the beaten track taking in some of the Allied War Cemeteries and the terminus of the Thai Burma Railway.
I’d be so grateful if you felt able to sponsor me. Any amount would be really appreciated and will make a real difference to people with bowel cancer. I would stress that all costs of the ride are being borne by me and the other participants.
To give you an idea of the difference your support will make:
· £300 could run our specialist nurse helpline for a day, providing vital advice to newly diagnosed patients and their families
· £100 could enable one of our patient volunteers to talk to groups and raise awareness of bowel cancer
· £50could cover the cost of our online patient forum for a day, allowing patients, their families and friends to share vital information
This is a charity close to my heart – thank you so much for any support you can give.
With best wishes.
John Collard
