Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2009 I set myself a goal of completing the London 10km race which I achieved. Buoyed by the feelings of euphoria and possible delusion from dehydration I decided to enter the London Marathon. Recognising a rising athletic star when they see one, I was given a place in the race and have been training steadily throughout the winter. I am targeting a time of 2:03:58 but due to wind direction, temperature, leaves on the tracks etc, that time may be subject to change. I will finish at some point and it would be a great incentive to have your support throughout the race. In order to justify getting up at 5:30 am during the week to do my training, I would like to raise some money for a charity called Medical Aid Films (MAF). MAF directly improves lives through empowering local communities in the developing world with the latest medical knowledge through training/education films. The films illustrate simple medical techniques that save lives. This is achieved through a combination of media technology, leading medical knowledge and professional film makers. This enables the latest medical knowledge to reach the most remote places in the world.
Interesting statistics:
536,000 women die in pregnancy every year (more thand half of these deaths occur in Africa)
3.4 million newborns die every year in childbirth
75% of these deaths are precentable by simple, proven interventions which can be taught by MAF films.
I think the work MAF do helps communities to build sustainable health care for the long term. If you are able to help with a donation that would be fantastic.
