With my son Christopher, and before the advancing years make it impossible, I'm aiming to climb Mont Blanc this September. So what's the connection with the Highland Hospice?
You can read about Highland Hospice and its sterling work on the left of the page. You will see that it has to rely heavily on charitable donations and needs £42000 each week to remain fully operational.
I've known many who have been cared for in their final days by Hospice staff and who, because of this, have been able to approach the end of life with dignity and calm. Friends and relatives speak in glowing terms of the Hospice and its staff, and the solace they have found there in the most difficult of life's traumas.
In the prime of life, I want to do something to help this wonderful institution. I'm not pretending that I'm struggling up a gruelling hill solely to raise money for charity. No, I love the hills and am seldom happier than when playing in the snow. I am doing this, self-funded, for a holiday and because I hope to reach the summit and stand with my son in my 60th year in the September sunshine atop the highest point in Western Eurpope (15771ft). But if I can use the climb as an opportunity to enable folks to support the work of the Hospice then so much the better. Indeed if I meet my target through your generosity, the satisfaction will be more than doubled!
So, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. Knowing you've supported me will keep aching legs climbing and, should it be that way, bad weather more bearable. If you are willing to donate please act now while it's in your mind and easy to do, and please give as generously as you can. Your donation will go directly to Highland Hospice.
Many thanks.
John.
