Well, much to my (and everyone else's) amazement, I did it. Many, many thanks to everyone who has sponsored me - you've all been very generous to a great cause!
I might even do another one.
NOT.
Jon.
In a fit of temporary insanity I have signed up for a 10k run/stagger/crawl/piggyback from a steward. I am currently immersed in a training regime involving a lot of lifting weights (varying between the weight of a full can of beer and an empty can of beer) and a carefully controlled peanut-based diet. I have done a lot of research into exercise and conclude that it looks like it might hurt.
Despite that, I am committed (or should be), and so will find some way to get round the 10k course in September (a more difficult proposition now I've found that electric wheelchairs and taxis are banned). In order to make it worthwhile, rather than merely an exercise in masochism, I will be running to raise money for the Cancer Counselling Trust.
Many organisations deal with research into cancer, and treatment of the physical disease. The Trust looks to help with the emotional wellbeing of those touched by cancer. It offers face-to-face counselling in , and telephone counselling across the
. Trust counsellors work with cancer
patients, their families, friends and care-givers to help
them through the difficult issues precipitated by a cancer diagnosis. Some of the more alert of you may recognise a member of staff.
I hope that you will give generously, both to support the fine work done by the Trust in an under-appreciated area of cancer care, and to make me feel that my expected suffering will be worthwhile. You could even raise additional money by making side bets on the stage of my run when the cardiac paddles will come into play.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you all for your generosity, and the get well soon cards that you'll send.
