As you may know, 2009 sees my first attempt at running a half marathon. The race that I have chosen is the Royal Parks half marathon and the starting gun is due to fire in just seven days. Unfortunately I have recently been injured but I am determined to complete the race and hope to raise some funds for the Royal Parks Foundation in the process.
Do you know where the cleanest air in central London is? I didn't but apparently it is in the heart of Hyde Park. This small area is also home to the Look Out education centre which is converted from old police-dog kennels. The centre is where over 1000 kids go each year to learn about the environment and our countryside. Having grown up in the country I can't imagine not having fields and trees around me all the time but for these children, the centre provides an important link to nature. The buildings are in a terrible state and the Royal Park Foundation is aiming to raise funds to create an all-year round education centre which will be a bright, eco-friendly building using renewable energy and surrounded by exciting nature trails, beetle loggeries and dipping ponds.
I know that we are all asked all the time to give money to a wide variety of worthy causes but if you do have even £1 to spare, it would go to a fantastic cause. Meanwhile I am off to do my last training run ... wish me luck!!
