Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hopefully, on 8th May 2010, I will be attempting to complete the 14 peaks challenge in Snowdonia. I aim to run/walk 14 summits (each over 3000ft), covering 26 miles, and a total of over 13,000ft of ascent - in under 12 hours. www.welsh3000s.co.uk or www.14peaks.com I am planning to raise as much cash as I can for the Myelin Project. My daughter, Emily, had a condition called Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, which is a demyelinating disease, and she sadly died in December 2006 at the age of 5 and a half. MLD is currently in-curable, and without continued research into the disease, a cure will be hard to find. For more information about MLD and its related diseases please visit www.myelinproject.co.uk or www.mldfoundation.org . Families continue to be affected by MLD, so with a little effort, I'm doing my bit to help find a cure, and make MLD a thing of the past. Please sponsor me on my 14 peaks challenge, any amount is greatly appreciated, thankyou.
Ok, we attempted the 14 peaks (turned out to be 15 peaks actually) on 15th May - and failed. Not by much - completed 12 peaks before running out of time. So, now it is unfinished business. We are aiming to return to give it another shot at some point this summer. Probably towards the end of August/ September. As soon as I have a date I will update the page. So, any donations are still greatly appreciated.
Ok, latest update. This challenge has proved to be a bit trickier then we first imagined. Not so much the running (or mainly walking) as the organising a support vehicle to transport your kit and meet you at the end to get you home. Anyway, we sorted all that out and ended up doing the challenge twice: First were my two friends, Andrew and Mark Sprague, with me doing the support role. So on 3rd July they set off at 6am (first peak 7am) and arrived at the final peak approx' 9hrs later at 4pm, I felt that this was a very good time, and they certainly looked like they had put in the effort when they got to the finish.
Next was my turn. So, on 17th July, Mark did the driving, and Andy came along with me for two of the three mountain sections. This helped a lot in terms of encouragement and navigation. Anyway, after setting off in the dark at 4am (first peak 5am) I finally arrived at the last peak 12hrs and 44 mins later at about 6pm. Not too bad a time I suppose. Overall, I enjoyed it-if this sort of thing can really be 'enjoyed'. Though I was more relievd to have finished it. Thanks to all that have sponsored me, and now for some well earned rest
