Thanks for taking the time to visit this page. The idea here is to raise money for a charity called TEMWA . Based in Bristol, they help build a sustainable future for the people of Malawi through community-based projects, working with the people, enabling them to become self sufficient and giving them hope for their families' futures. A few stats underline just how important this is:
Malawi is ranked as the 8th poorest country in the world with 41.7% of the population living on less than $1 per day; in 2003, over half a million children were orphaned by AIDS (13% of the population); almost one in five children die before reaching the age of 5 and almost 50% of deaths among children under 5 are attributable to Malaria.
If that's not enough reason to donate, then read on: a group of climbers and non-climbers are going to climb 8,848m (Everest!) or more on Friday 27th November inside the Bristol Climbing Centre. To help them out, I've said I'm going to lead climb 500m in the main hall which equates to about 50 routes.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So go on, give them some money, anything will do ...
STOP PRESS: STEVE RICHARDSON IS COMING OUT OF RETIREMENT TO CLIMB 500m IN THE MAIN HALL ...
STOP PRESS 2: NEW PROMISE -
depending on donations (ignoring gift aid) between now and Friday 27th at 3pm, JULIAN promises the following:
Total donations less than £250 – I’ll lead 50 routes, repeating whenever I need to, to keep the grade down without getting too bored. Over £250 less than £500 – I’ll lead 50 routes in the main hall, not repeating any, which means everything up to and including all the 6b+’s and a few 6c’s (which I may not survive). Over £500, I’ll do the above wearing a dress. Over £1000 and I’ll do the above wearing a dress and a wig. Any individual donations of £50 or more get to specify one item of clothing to be worn for 3 routes (said item to be provided by the donator and brought down to the wall on Friday evening between 4 and 6pm).
