We are an international organisation working to build a prosperous rural Africa. We help farmers to increase their harvests, build their incomes and sustain natural resources, partnering with governments and the private sector to find effective ways to fight poverty.

Story

David, James and I are taking part in the Nine 2 Five Rat Race in order to raise money for Lloyd’s Charities Trust’s partner charity, FARM-Africa.

Over the last 20 years there has been a chronic lack of investment in agriculture in Africa. Faced with harsh conditions and poor access to vital resources, subsistence agriculture can be a constant struggle. FARM-Africa provides the training and support that poor rural communities need to identify and implement appropriate solutions to many of the key problems they face.  Families are directly supported to help work themselves out of poverty through improved ways to manage their crops, livestock, forests and access to water.

We will spend eight hours biking, climbing, kayaking and running around London. The race will include some fun (depending on your point of view...) challenges such as rappelling off of Twickenham stadium and fording the sparkling clean urban streams around London. Our team will be competing against eight other teams from Lloyd's and the team with the most points in combination with fastest time will be crowned the market champion.
