Hello Friends
Many of you will know that I am the Administration Manager of the (BUI). What you may not know is that climbing Kilimanjaro has always been something that I've wanted to do, so my friend Kathy and I are off to in February. I am paying for my trip but thought I would fundraise for the BUI at the same time.
Why the BUI?
Urology is not a glamorous subject but at some point in all of our lives we will experience a problem either with our waterworks or associated parts of our body! Awareness is key, especially in areas such as prostate cancer, but lifting the taboo and embarrassment element of continence is important too. Through research and collaboration with industry and universities, the BUI is developing new devices and methods of managing urological disease, as well as more accurate diagnostic tests for urological cancers.
Sharing the knowledge and skills of our local experts is important and many have already forged links with hospitals in the third world and, in particular, the home of Mt Kilimanjaro, and . It is of special interest to me that the BUI builds on these links, and perhaps my fundraising efforts can in some way help to do just that.
Kathy and I are training hard with the support of family and friends. Kathy is fundraising for Admiral Nurses (Dementia Relief Trust), which is a charity funding specialist nurses in the community for clients with dementia - www.justgiving.com/kathycook
Any support you are able to give us will be gratefully received and I look forward to letting you know how we get on.
Best wishes
Karen
