In April 2010 I am flying out to Norway for Meningitis Research Foundation’s Husky Sled challenge – 7 days driving a team of 6 huskies over 250km into the wilderness of Sweden. I’ll be camping in temperatures of -20ºC, taking care of my dogs, and piloting the sled through valleys of ice and dense forests for 14hrs a day. It’s going to be tough - I'm getting tired just thinking about it!
I will be in charge of six huskies that I will be looking after during this adventure....and they'll be looking after me (and not throwing me off and running away!). It will be a test of my endurance as I camp out under the stars, glimpse the Northern Lights, battle the icy elements and get through each freezing day to my destination - The Ice Hotel. I'll be facing frostbitten toes (or worse!), sleeping on reindeer skins, and the possibility of being eaten by my husky team if I forget to feed them.
Why am I doing this?? I have worked for Meningitis Research Foundation for over 2 years and everyday I have been moved and inspired by people affected by meningitis and septicaemia. I've seen their generosity and dedication in raising so much money for our vital work. These diseases take hold so quickly and can result in healthy individuals of ALL ages fighting for and losing their lives, or surviving with devastating after effects. Our members and supporters do so much for us and I want to help the charity that I am part of and give my support to everyone who helps us fight against these diseases.
So, I need your help. Sponsor me and the money you donate will help MRF fight meningitis and septicaemia. We fund vital scientific research prevention, detection and treatment of the diseases, we raise awareness of the symptoms amongst health professionals and the public, and we provide support for those affected.
So dig deep people and support me in the Arctic wilderness and MRF's aims of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.

NEW UPDATE! - I want to extend a huge thank you to Kevin and Chris Davies who have had to pull out of their booking on the Lapland Husky Trail and have pledged to donate to me the money they have raised so far as well as the proceeds from one of the websites they are working. Firstly, I am really gutted that they are not going on the trip with me! But I am really touched that they want to support me and the MRF in this way. Don't worry boys I'm sure I'll have some horror stories to come back with!!!
UPDATE - As some of you may know I won £1,000 for my entry in the Justgiving & Paypal Food-Film-Pun competition - http://blog.justgiving.com/2009/10/22/news-from-jg-towers/dude-wheres-my-carbonara/ . To say I am pleased is an understatement! This amount has been added to my fundraising for the challenge. If you add this to the £130 I have personally put into the fund and £365 I am pledging to put in from my own money it covers the cost of the trip....so this means that EVERY donation you kind people give in sponsorship will come directly to MRF! This goes for all past and future donations!
