SATURDAY 12th DECEMBER 2009, 11am - The Abyss @ Magna, Sheffield

"This unique experience is one of a kind.  Take the plunge with the world's newest extreme experience, the Powerfan.

A parachute jump simulator housed in the top of the magnificent steel hall at MAGNA, You climb to the platform high above in the semi darkness, then you step off the platform and feel the rush of gravity as you free fall rapidly downwards to the hall below before the powerfan kicks in high above you and you float down to a soft landing.
Picture the scene: You are enveloped in semi darkness, spot lights whirl around Magna’s breathtaking structure, the Face of Steel, standing at 150 feet; you start the 143 step climb to the jump zone music pumps out of a wall of speakers, dry ice fills the air, and 7 huge video screens project images of what you are about to experience …and that’s before you’ve even taken the plunge!
Once at the jumpstation, after safety and equipment checks, you are attached by your back to the powerfan. Then you just step off 150ft in The Abyss. Falling at 97% of the full force of gravity, your heart will be in your mouth as your descent is slowed in the final 30ft, allowing you to land a walk accross the terrafirma! The Ultimate Rush..."

Now - I admit, when i agreed to this, i thought it was actually the indoor skydive, where you are blown upwards. However, now i have paid the registration fee and there's no turning back!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE dig deep and sponsor me - this is possibly the scariest thing i will ever do, as i am pretty petrified of heights and speed, especially when i am not in control, so this is by no means just a way of doing something fun for free.  My life will be dependent upon a small fan stopping the rope!!
I wouldn't be doing this for any other charity - i experience the amazing work they do every day with my service users, but also through my personal family experiences of stroke - The Stroke Association provide such an amazing service to stroke victims and their carers and need as much support as they can get, for them to continue.
