Story

After Vancouver, I will now pound the streets and historic harbour of Portsmouth on Sunday 26 October 2014 in the Great South Run, once again raising some money for Bright Northumbria and as a gesture of support for Shirley Corrigill and her family..

I found out at the weekend that one of my mum's friends has suffered a devastating stroke. Shirley will be 80 in September (although you would never know it) and it is very sad for me to hear this news as she has always been so lovely to me. I am however comforted to know she is being well looked after at North Tyneside Hospital and that the money I have raised so far may help towards her rehabilitation in the future..

As a good luck wish to Shirley, I have therefore extended my Justgiving page until the end of the year and have just signed up to run the Great South Run on Sunday 26 October in her honour. This is a 10 mile run around historic Portsmouth..not quite a half marathon but it still promises to be another inspiring run for me.

Why do I run for the Bright charity?.I continue to support this North East charity that delivers wide range of services to a wide range of people.  Bright work to ensure that their patients have the best experience possible in their hospitals and from the community services that they provide. This may be providing a claiming oasis for relatives of people nearing the end of their life, an award winning healing arts programme or to help purchase the latest high tech equipment to keep patient care at the leading edge of technology.

Bright support a wide range of initiatives which improve the patient environment, invest in research that benefits patients and fund specialist training for staff.

Keeping it Mum!!....My Mum Heather (Carr) is also a Public Governor for Whitley Bay, part of the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and works hard on a voluntary basis being a 'voice' for patients, doctors and nurses. Those of you who know her appreciate how much she does to support the good work of the Trust & how much she enjoys it so I wanted to support my Mum too...

I know you have all been very generous before, sponsoring me on numerous occasions so this is just a space for anyone who asks me if I am raising money or would like to donate something...all monies raised will go to support the Stroke Support Group and I will run the race for Shirley Corrigill.

Thank you
