Thank you for taking time to visit my Just Giving page and for supporting Baby Lifeline. This is a fantastic charity which is also supported by my wife's business, Bumpalicious Maternity.
You might think that cycling over 400 miles up some very large mountains is a rather odd way to celebrate your 40th birthday but I've always been one for personal challenges! I'm not alone, Mr Mark Roberts will be my trusty companion and Margaret my trusty steed.
Here is a little more information about our route:
DAY 1: Lyon to Vizille. 70 miles. A steady start taking us to the foothills of the big mountains.
DAY 2: This is where the challenge really begins! Vizille to La Grave taking in Alpe D"huez. Just over 60 miles. L'Alpe d'Huez is one of the main mountains of the Tour de France, one of the most famous hors categorie (beyond classification) climbs. The climb up Alpe d'Huez is 13.8 km with an average gradient of 8.1% (1130 m) with 21 switchbacks marked with signs honouring each of the Tour de France/Alpe d'Huez stage winners. Please have a look at some of the images I've attached.
DAY 3: Galibier. La Grave to Mont Dauphin. 60 miles.
DAY 4: Mont Dauphin to Sisteron. 90 miles.
DAY 5: Sisteron to Moustiers Ste Marie. 55 miles. The gateway to the Grand Canyon du Verdon.
DAY 6: Grand Canyon du Verdon. Moustiers Ste Marie to Comps Sur Arturby. 40 miles. Cycling through the Grand Canyon of Europe.
DAY 7: Comps Sur Arturby to Nice.
Baby Lifeline is a very special charity as it helps to save the lives of babies here in the UK and all over the world. It is an unfortunate fact that even with the advances in medical care and science today, more than 8,500 babies still die at or around the time of birth.
Baby Lifeline works with leading health and legal professionals to identify and prioritise equipment needs for the maternity sector, as well as cutting edge training for continuing professional development - to improve care already given.
Every pence raised can make a difference and help to save a baby's life. Thank you for helping.
