Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This page is written on behalf of Laurien, who lives in Rwanda. Laurien and a team of his friends are running 115 km, between them, as part of the Kigali Peace Marathon 22 May.
This race is particularly special to Laurien, as he is raising money for Hope and Homes for Children, the UK based charity who transformed his life.
Laurien was barely out of his teens when his parent’s died and he found himself at the head of his family, responsible for his five younger brothers and sisters. Laurien struggled to find money to support his family and as a result the family split up in order to survive.
But Laurien is a determined young man and he came up with a plan to bring his family back together. With the help of a business grant of £100 from Hope and Homes for Children Laurien set up an egg stall at the local market. Laurien also spotted a gap in the market and every Monday he transports and sells 380 eggs to a local restaurant.
Today, the family are reunited and live under one roof. With the money he makes Laurien is able to send his brothers and sisters to school, provide food and pay their rent. The family is on the path to self-sufficiency.
Laurien is extremely grateful for the support given to him by Hope and Homes for Children and is running the Kigali Peace Marathon to raise money to help other children who are in a similar situation to his.
All of the young people running as part of Laurien’s team have been supported by Hope and Homes for Children and many are orphan’s themselves. To find out more about the team and Hope and Homes for Children visit their website: www.hopeandhomes.org\teamlaurien
Please give what you can to sponsor Laurien and his friends. All of the money will be used to transform the lives of more children and young people like Laurien.
