Here is some more information on Mvumi School and what a difference your donations could make:
Mvumi Secondary School is in Southern Tanzania, 36 km
from Dodoma, Tanzania’s capital. Currently there are 440 boys and girls, 222
juniors and 66 seniors board. The age range is from 12 to mid 20s.
Like many other schools in Africa Mvumi School is having problems meeting demand since their budget is constantly stretched:
- They
do not have enough text books or basic equipment.
- It
is hard for them to find and keep good teaching staff in such a remote area,
especially since there is a national shortage of qualified teachers.
- The
food they provide the students would be considered inadequate here. Pupils get
two small pieces of meat a week and one portion of fruit. For many pupils their
school food is the only regular meal they get everyday.
Mvumi School is special because it has recently accommodated for and built a building for blind and visually impaired students, there are now around 50 blind and visually impaired students. They are desperately in need of specialist MP3 and CD players that can be used by blind pupils, which cost around £300 each.
Mvumi School is one of our chosen charities because of a personal link since I (Cecily
Henderson) am going to work at the school for a month after attempting Kili and
can report back on the school and what a difference your donations will make.
