2 March 2010
I am back from this amazing challenge, it has taken me a week or so to really take in the impact all of this has had on me. I am both overwhelmed and proud of what I have achieved. The group cycled 662k across Central America in 8 days. We camped in some beautiful and some not so beautiful places. If you would like to look at some of the 1300 photo's posted by all the participants please go to Macmillan Central America Challenge 2010 - the photos
I would like to thank all the people who have already supported me, this justgiving web page will be open untill 30th April 2010, all donations welcomed by me and the millions of people that Macmillan have helped.
Thank you

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In February 2010 I will be celebrating my 50th birthday and what better way to mark this milestone in my life than a CHALLENGE!! So I have signed myself up for a mountain bike trip across Central America! This is the Macmillan Cancer Support Trans-Central America Cycling Challenge.
Also next year I will have completed 25 years service in the NHS, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham; and for the last 21 years as Scheme Co-ordinator for Birmingham Quality (UK NEQAS Birmingham).
There are two main reasons why I am taking on this challenge:
1. My mother died at a very early age from cancer, at a time when charities like Macmillan did not exist. Although I feel the support we received from the NHS was adequate, extra support from a charity like Macmillan would have been most welcome.
2. I'm at a time in my life where I can now give something back (I have an empty nest and too much time on my hands). Having reached 50 I feel like this will be one door closing and another one opening for my next half century. I am hoping that the whole experience of fund raising and the bike ride will be a life-changing experience.
