Anyone who met me a few years ago might be quite surprised to learn that I am planning to run 10 miles, it has come as a bit of a shock to me for that matter! I've never properly run further than 5k and that coupled with the fact that almost my entire family are running (including my little brother who did the FLM in just over 3 hrs) means the pressure is on! I'm aiming mostly to get round, anything under 2.5 hours will be a bonus and anything under 2 hours will be a miracle!
I'm copying Jenny's excellent idea by asking people to guess what time I'll finish in when they donate - a box of traybake (basically its the best chocolate fix known to humans, just ask the footy ladies!) will be awarded to the person whose guess is closest to my actual time.
I'm running for a charity which is very important to me - the CGD Research Trust. CGD is a rare and life-threatening genetic condition which could affect 8-10 people in a million of us. You are born with a faulty gene in your bone marrow, meaning your white blood cells cannot fight infections as they should. People with CGD have to take powerful antiobiotics and antifungals every day. But thanks to gifts from people like you, our understanding of CGD has hugely improved in recent years. Treatments including bone marrow transplants are increasingly successful. Although still in its infancy gene therapy offers real hope for the future with promising results from recent clinical trials.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you so much! Kirst xx
