Raising money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of blind and partially sighted people never leave home alone. Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies totally on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service. We breed and train guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. The full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else. On Saturday 4th August 2007, brothers Mark and Richard Walsh are embarking on the Lakes Long Distance Swim Challenge.
Money raised will go to Guide Dogs for the Blind so they can buy a tandem to enable them to take a visually impaired athlete on Le Tour Challenge "in the Tyre Tracks of Champions 2007" and future events.

The challenge will begin in Lake Windermere, continuing in a clockwise fashion around the Lake District National Park and the waters listed below finishing in Haweswater Reservoir on Sunday 5th.

To our knowledge this would be the first time for such a challenge has been undertaken.

The Lakes are:

1. Windermere

2. Coniston Water

3. Wast Water

4. Ennerdale

5. Crummock

6. Buttermere

7. Derwent

8. Basenthwaite

9. Thirlmere

10. Ullswater

11. Haweswater
