Story
Just over two years ago my beautiful Mum lost her battle
with Mesothelioma, a form of cancer triggered by exposure to asbestos. In comparison to others battling this horrific disease, hers was a long fight and she passed away four years after her original diagnosis, very sadly just one month before the birth of her first grandchild.
However, for many the journey isn’t as long and most sufferers are given just a one year survival rate – a shocking reality to be faced with! This disease is particularly cruel as there is no known cure leaving families with very little hope.
This month my mum would have been celebrating her 60th birthday surrounded by two gorgeous new grandchildren and with her daughter’s wedding to look forward to. Instead my family is left to face these amazing milestones without her, something that gives me great sadness.
To mark her birthday I will be running the Windsor Half Marathon on 25th September and raising money for Mesothelioma UK, a national resource centre providing specialist information, support, care, and treatment information. If you are able to sponsor me just a small amount you will be helping families dealing with this terrible disease by giving them help and support during their greatest time of need. x
