In light of the recent humanitarian disaster following the earthquake in Haiti, which has affected the 2.2 million people who live in the areas where thousands are feared dead and many more injured the Law Society has set up an appeal to aggregate money raised from among the legal profession on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies.

The DEC launches and co-ordinates national fundraising appeals for public donations on behalf of its member agencies. The DEC urgently needs our support to help the many people affected. The earthquake lasted just 45 seconds but reaped havoc to last a lifetime.

How your money is spent?
Appeal funds raised are distributed to the DEC member agencies that are best placed to use them. The DEC ensure that all money raised is spent in a timely, cost-effective and efficient way.

Anyone wanting to stay up to date with developments in Haiti, the emergency response and the fundraising efforts can follow the DEC on twitter at http://twitter.com/decappeal or become a fan of ‘Disasters-Emergency-Committee-DEC’ on Facebook.

The DEC consists of: Action Aid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund, World Vision.
