My name is Alfonso Ochoa and I'm from Venezuela living in Genova, Italy since June 2009, and out of Venezuela since 2003.
"Le Tour de Fonz" (I know might be a silly name but humour me here for a second) is an project which has been growing in me since I started riding around Italy last year. The idea was to link some cities of Europe I wanted to visit out of curiosity or to visit friends and get some interesting riding in between. As training evolved so did the trip and have become more of a personal challenge with time.
I also thought it would be brilliant if I could use this trip as a way of helping others in need. Talking to friends about it, I heard about Gustavo Hinestrosa. Another venezuelan who is doing the Marathon des Sables next month and using justgiving.com for collecting funds for www.veninos.org a charity which works for improving the life of street and shanty town children in Venezuela. You can check Gustavo's page here http://www.justgiving.com/Gustavointhedesert
Being out of Venezuela in these difficult times the country and its people are living everyday, I feel some responsability to give something back for my country and people working for it, so I've decided to use this cycling trip to collect funds for Veninos as well.
I'm riding about 4000 km from Genova to Genova, huging the Italian and french coast to Barcelona, then through the Pyrenees to the Atlantic and the accross France to Brussels and down south through the Alps back into Italy.
You can see more details of the trip and the whole project in my blog www.fonziesride.blogspot.com and I will be updating costantly both websites from now on.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
