Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page which has been set up in memory of Leighton who passed away peacefully at the Hospice in the Weald on Thursday 11th February 2010.
Leighton (and I) received care and support from the Community Team for a couple of months and then from the in-patient team for the last few days of his life. The staff at the Hospice are amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them however much we asked of them - one nurse even found him an apple at 9.30pm at night from their own lunch bag - it doesn't sound much but it was the last food he asked for and therefore became so important. I know Leighton's family were also extremely grateful for the care and support shown to him and would also like to register their thanks.
The Hospice care is provided to patients free of charge based on need and they need approximately £4million each year to fund all their services. It costs around £1,750 per week for the Hospice to provide a specialist In-Patient bed and £3,000 meets all the costs associated with the average length of stay for an in-patient at the Hospice.
