In January 2012 Ju, Leona, Sarah, Jo, and Eilish are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), in memory of Chloe. We are paying all of our own costs, so every penny you donate goes directly to the charity.
As far as actually climbing the mountain goes: Leona doesn't seem to be worried at all- "most of the climbing is no more difficult than Carn Brea" (although getting down with her dodgy knee could be interesting); Ju will surely sprint up there like a mountain goat (or sheep) but is worried about having to get on the aeroplane; and Jo, who doesn't like walking uphill much, is mainly preoccupied with the worry of having to climb fueled primarily by mashed potato! We'll just count ourselves lucky if Sarah remembers to turn up!
Partly because it's good training and partly because she's a bit mad, Leona has also completed the 2011 London Marathon...... looked like an extra from Shaun of the Dead by the time she crossed the line!
Julie has completed an enduralife triathlon (mountain biking, kayaking and trail running 50 miles across Devon)......she was 3rd female home!!!
Sarah has collected money at a dance event...
and Jo has fully immersed herself in the far more sedate activities e.g. knitting for craft stalls, smiling at strangers at Tesco, and tweeting!
We are raising money for FSID following the tragic death of Chloe Thorpe on 26/01/2010, aged just 3 months, niece of Leona and Eilish and cousin of Jo.
We've created a facebook group so that everyone can follow our progress (or lack thereof!): http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=113718402012402
