UPDATE: 

The Great Yorkshire run has been completed on what was a fabulous day in hot and sunny Sheffield. The team really came together and the atmosphere was fantastic. The support and donations to date have been overwhelming and we can't thank you enough for the kindness and generosity shown.

Attention now turns to the Men's Health Survival of the Fittest event in Nottingham on 11 October. This will involve running 10km interspersed with a series of challenging obstacles and will likely include getting soaked in the Trent and plastered in mud. The gluttons for punishment are: Matt Leonard, Lynsey Ayling, Kirstie Courtney-May, Ryan Davis, Steven Elliott and Mike Clement.   

WHY WE'RE DOING THIS:

Chelsea was diagnosed with stomach cancer with liver metastasis on 8 July 2013 when 37 weeks pregnant. Labour was induced to enable further investigation to be undertaken and the healthy and beautiful Willow Grace Leonard was welcomed into the world on 10 July 2013. 

Despite the poor prognosis, Chelsea was determined to do whatever she could to buy herself more time with Willow and her friends and family. With the fantastic support of the consultant and nursing teams at the Christie, Chelsea was guided through 13 cycles of chemotherapy including 10 cycles on a clinical trial. Although results in the early stages of treatment were encouraging, Chelsea's condition worsened and, shortly after her wedding day on 7 June 2014, she was admitted to the Christie where the palliative team cared for her and managed her pain until she passed away peacefully on 30 June 2014, two weeks before Willow's first birthday. 

Chelsea was a brilliant mummy and, despite the devastating circumstances, she dealt with her diagnosis with strength, courage and dignity. She touched the hearts of everyone she met, had a smile that lit up any room and will be lovingly remembered. 

Throughout the past 12 months, the people at the Christie have been a great support and have frequently gone beyond the call of duty to make Chelsea as comfortable as possible. As a token of our gratitude, and in support of the work that they do, we would like to raise as much money as possible for the Christie in Chelsea's honour. It is intended that the money raised will be donated to the Oesophago-gastric fund which is a fund at the Christie dedicated to the research of upper GI cancers.
