Story

THANK YOU!!

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone who has donated to my page. I have received donations from all over the world and your generosity and support has been overwhelming.  Together we have raised enough to support 20 girls in rural Africa through school for a year, which is a brilliant achievement.  Access to education is a fundamental right and for girls and young women in rural Africa it literally can save their lives. So that you can see the true impact that your donation will make, I have set out below the story of Cindy who I met in Zambia who is being supported through secondary school through Camfed. If you would still like to donate, your support would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks again, my heart is full.

Cindy's story

Cindy is 13 years old. By the time she was three, both her father and her mother had died. The aunt who took care of her died five years later. Since then she has lived with her grandmother in a rural village in Zambia. Despite having experienced so much sadness in her  young life, Cindy is very clear that she has been loved throughout her life, and with this love she has been able to overcome the challenges.  In Cindy’s school of 1,700 children, more than 500 girls and boys are orphans. However, the love of grandmothers and other guardians can’t pay school costs when subsistence farming provides so little income. Therefore she is one of the thousands of girls in rural Zambia who are being supported through school by Camfed.  Cindy's motivation and commitment is remarkable - “I am studying hard to go to a good high school.  I would like to go to a school where they teach very well so I can focus on my studies. I decided when I was young that I wanted to be a lawyer. In the courtroom, you are fighting for justice, not just for one person but for all. That’s why I want to be a lawyer.”  At 13, Cindy has the advocacy skills of a university student and, having personally experienced her cross-examination technique, I am certain that she will succeed - and her community and Camfed will be there together to make sure she does.
