My story

Pakistan has been torn apart by wars, terrorism and natural disasters. Sussex Partnership owes much to Pakistan, because some of our most senior doctors were born and trained there. Recently our charitable funds paid for flights so that three psychiatrists could go to the Punjab for two weeks in their holidays, in a voluntary capacity, and provide post traumatic stress training to 340 teachers, doctors and nurses after the recent floods.

Now we are raising money so that 10 Pakistani children (5 boys and 5 girls) affected by the floods can have an excellent education via the mission schools.

To do my job running the trust and chairing the Mental Health Network , I regularly travel 1,000 miles or so each month.

In February 2011, I gave up my car and travelled by bicycle - and bus or train where distances and time demanded. My intention was to get fitter, set a green example and raise money at the same time. People followed my adventures at http://www.TheArgus.co.uk/blogs - each blog was called Day 1, Day 2 etc...not that I was counting. I did 1400 miles in total, including 300 by bike.

We are still collecting sponsorship money to help the children of Pakistan to find a future. Education is their greatest hope. Who knows, one day one of the 10 children we help may train to be a doctor or a nurse and even work in mental health services in Pakistan.

Thank you very much

Lisa
