Story

On 1st December 2016, i was diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer with liver and lymph node metastasis, which is incurable.  I had palliative radiotherapy in December and started the first round of chemotherapy on the 21st December. Following several reactions to one of the drugs, I could no longer have this, but the one I continued to have 6 sessions of worked in the best way shrinking all areas of the cancer.

However, In may 2017 I suffered two seizures, Being told this has since spread to my brain was heartbreaking. I was given gamma knife treatment immediately and on the 21st June I start a new course of chemotherapy.

I have thrown myself into raising awareness of cervical cancer and raising as much money as i can to have something to focus on, keep my mind active and obviously to hopefully prevent someone from going through the same hell as myself in the future.

I am raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal, which is supported at St James hospital, Bexley Wing where I am being treated. Here all the staff have so far been amazing on my heartbreaking journey.

Since diagnosis I have done interviews for BBC Look North as well as various local radio stations. My main focus was to host a fundraising event on 4th February (World Cancer Day).

I have done this, with great success, with help from family, friends, local and national companies as well as strangers. I have so far raised a spectacular amount but my aim is to keep on going. Not only is this a great cause, the YCC offer me huge support along this journey, as well as supporting my family and close friends. The focus I have on these fundraising events is also keeping my spirits high and giving me focus on life beyond cancer.

I am inspired to repeat similar events to continue to raise money and awareness for such a great charity whilst I am still able to do so.

My next event is taking place on Saturday 2nd September 2017, at the Crooked Billet in Saxton.

Yorkshire Evening Post are interested in featuring #lizfest in their publication.

Along this journey I have already sacrificed many things I never thought I'd be without at my age, and any help and support to raise money for the charity that is supporting me would be great. Ultimately awareness to such a horrible disease is my main aim.

Any donation however large or small would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support.
