My story

Me, Jamie and our funky fringes (see pic) have signed up for the Brighton marathon.

Apart from proving once-and-for-all who's the best Witts, it's a chance for us to raise money for Mossy Foot UK, a charity I came across on a trip to Ethiopia.

The charity was created to help fight a disease called podoconiosis (or mossy foot) that affects people living in the highlands. What's so sad is that sufferers may lose the ability to walk just for the want of a pair of shoes.

Mossy Foot UK helps them. Not just by providing shoes, but by raising awareness of how the disease can be avoided and treated, and by helping people find alternative ways of making a living should they want to.

Mossy Foot UK is only a little charity, which means that every penny raised goes towards the work they do and the men, women and children it helps.

Between now and next April Jamie and I shall be out training in force. I say out training. Jamie's exercise regime currently involves repointing the kitchen. But since he's an elite triathlete (heh heh) then that shouldn't matter.

As for my progress, if you'd like to join me running on Hampstead Heath, staggering along the Devon coast or swimming in cold ponds, you'll find my training blog here: Under 2 hours (http://under2hours.blogspot.com).

And finally, please be assured that every penny you give, whatever the amount, will be much appreciated and put to very good use.

Lots of love and cheers, from Louise and Jamie x

Mossy Foot UK

Charity Registration No. 1129888

It raises awareness and financial support for sufferers of a disease called Podoconiosis. This is caused by absorption of silicate particles through the foot skin that leads to scarring of the lymph vessels and massive swelling of the legs. About 1 million people are affected in the Ethiopian highlands.
