Did you know?

Written by team member Fiona Knight....................
My mother has suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, which is a form of Dementia, for 10 years and has been in residential care for 7 years. It is a horrid disease for the person as well as for those who are closest to them and it raises a variety of issues. Even though I still have my Mum, she is not the person I have known for all of my life. An energetic, happy and hard working lady who ran her own business locally for many years is now someone who cannot do anything for herself and does not know who I am.
Even though I console myself with ensuring anything that can be done for my Mum is done, I have always wondered whether any good could come out of the situation. I have therefore decided to take part in the Alzheimer’s Society’s to Paris Cycle Ride to raise money for the continued good work of the Alzheimer’s Society and to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the disease and the support needed by the elderly generally. Luckily my colleague Lucy Beck has agreed to join me in this adventure!
I have learnt from a difficult family situation with my Mum that life is for living. Although we need to have a balance in our lives, we need to enjoy life and take the opportunities that come our way as you never know what life has in store for us. So whilst Lucy and I take the pain of preparing for and undertaking the 300 mile cycle ride over 4 days, we have created FOUR opportunities for you to have some fun and support our fund raising at the same time. If you can, we would both be very grateful for your support.
We will be circulating full details & booking forms for each event in the very near future.
In the meantime, dates for your diaries:-
QUIZ NIGHT – Friday 28May
FRENCH EVENING – Saturday 17July
FESTIVAL LUNCH Thursday 19August
‘SEND OFF’ BLACK BALL – Friday 10September
We hope that you will be interested in the events that we have planned. We do however appreciate that there are many people undertaking challenges and organising events for charities and so in view of the current economic climate, Lucy and I are grateful for any support you can give us.
Thanks.
