Thank you to everyone who donated before my jump - oh boy, it was worth it. If you have ever considered jumping but haven't yet got there, I highly recommend it, but be prepared to be petrified.
I luckily got to jump - I was one of eight on Saturday and then low cloud joined us. I had my brief briefing (10 minutes before you plunge to potential death), adourned my jump suit, harness, leather cap (not a helmet!) and was asigned to Dave my stable looking tandum instructor. I then phsyched myself up, squeezed into the plane with another 8 victims, including a very brave 75 year old woman who could barely walk and was taking a first trip in an airplane, as we climbed to 9000 ft.
We were told to scream as we left the plane, so the air would leave our lungs and we wouldn't choke with fright.... fine by me... I won't tell you what I screamed! And I did, intially, close my eyes as I felt my body plunging to the earth but then I opened them and what am amazing veiw. The -8 ice and air was stinging my face, as I fell 120 mph but then the parachute was pulled and the air became silent and I glided to safety.
The adrenaline filled my veins and the seratonin my brain and I wanted to throw up, as I begged my instructor to take me up and do it again but the clouds had lowered and the rain was spitting and maybe my body couldn't have handled the excitedment of twice in half hour. But I definately do have the bug! Sorry Mum!!
Thanks again to you all who sponsored me and if you were waiting to see if i would go through with it to make your donation to the very worthwhile Polio Fellowship, I have and you can.
Much love and thanks ... Lucy
The jump has been postponed until May 15th. Thank you for all your well wishes, in thought and in text for last Saturday but if you could think about me again in May, i'll truly need it. x
So many thanks to all of you who attended the pub quiz @ Six Bells, Chiddingly and the Natural Fitness Centre open day. Both events were great fun, and raised £110 and £120 respectively. Many thanks to the excellent quiz master, Mr Chris Giles and NFC owner, Alison Brown. I couldn't have done it without you.
After the great sucess of raising close to £6k in 2008 for Battersea Dogs and Cats home, I'm at it again and this time raising money for the Polio Fellowship. An equally as mad adventure as last time, 20th March 2010 will see me jumping out of an airplane, as a Tandem skydive, in name of charity. Two of us, Jessica and I, will be screaming with joy (and holding hands) as we leap from the plane. Spectators are welcome at Headcorn airfield, moral support truly appreciated, in spirit or presence.Polio is a virus which destroys the nerves that control muscles, leading to severe disability, in many cases. Polio has almost been eradicated Worldwide due to an extensive immunisation programme over the last 50 years. However, many of the early sufferers are now coping with the effects of Post Polio Symptoms which can lead to further muscle loss, respiratory problems and more pain and weakness. Your donation to the Polio Fellowship will be a great help.
I thank all of you who sponsored me previously and I am appealing again, to your great generosity, for this extremely worthy charity.
