We did it!!! We made it to the top of Kilimanjario - and it was high! We walked for 6 days starting in the rainforset (yes it rained  - a lot),  by day 2 we were walking up over rockey paths dodging out the the porters way.

Day 3 we were in the clouds treking over stoney
plateaus - this was a hard day we climbed to a height of 4600 meters and many of us started to feel the altidude -suffering sickness, headaches, dizzness, indegestion and a loss of appitite.  We came down to a hight of 3900 meters to sleep, this was much needed after 12hrs on the go. After some support from our fellow trekers, a few tears (and lots of drugs) we picked ourselves up and were in good spirts for the start of day 4, the Barranco wall day, 150 meters stratight up. Then on to lunch the ground was like walking on the moon (well I imagine the moon would be like this) finaly arriving at base camp 12 hrs later.

This was now summit night, some food and two hours sleep then we were up and off. Leaving at midnight we walked for 8 hours in the dark, reaching the sumit (5895 meters) around 9 am. To say this was hard is an understatement, despite vomitting, hallucinations, chest pain, some fluid on the lungs and generally being very very tired we got to the top. Oh and Dad had a bit of a headache!

What an experiance, it was one of the hardest things we have ever done but it was worth every step. And we did all this to raise money for the Big Issue Foundation. This is a fantastic orgainastion that works so hard to help people who are homeless get there lives back on track. We appreciate having a warm secure home particularly in this frezzing weather; many people aren’t as fortunate as us and need support.

Most of us don't relise how easy it is to become homeless, the Foundation plays a vital role in helping people help themselves. They assist people in achiving self-confidence, self-esteem and independence by providing access to a unique range of services, enabling people to take control of their lives and find permanent homes and jobs.

We paid the trip expenses ourselves so all donations go straight to the Big Issue. A massive thank you to so many people who have been so generous with the donations, please dig deep it is a great cause and it was realy really hard.

Thank you,

Sam and Lucy Anning
