As well as the Bupa Great North Run on September the 7th 2014, I am also doing Chew Valley 10km on the 22nd June 2014, Burnham-on-sea Half Marathon on 5th October 2014 and the Grand Pier Half Marathon on 2nd November 2014.

The reason I am doing these running events are, Recently two friends I have known for many years, Matt and Kelly Mansfield found out that their son Reuben (18 months old) has duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) which is a severe genetic muscle wasting condition for which there is NO cure. The condition is usually diagnosed in early childhood and mainly affects boys, children are often wheelchair bound at the age of 10 and by their late teens many are totally paralysed,
It means unless a treatment is found Reuben won't live past the age of thirty and he will suffer all his life!!!
  A couple of weeks ago a boy aged 10 lost his battle with this horrible disease, I had never heard of this condition before and we need to help make people aware of it!!
