Thanks for taking the time to visit my
JustGiving page. I completed the pilgrimage from Leon to Santiago de Compostella in 11 days. It was a fabulous experience and I loved every minute of it. I did not get one blister, just slightly sore knees after 8 days and a long descent! I am so grateful for your support and prayers and am thrilled to have raised about £900.00 for the repair of the roof of my Parish Church of St Lawrence
in Towcester [http://www.stlawrencechurch.org.uk/] where I am Curate and to date £460.00 for a small, albeit unfortunately
still rather unknown, charity for people suffering from the devastating
terminal neurodegenerative illnesses PSP [Progressive Supranuclear Palsy] and
CBD [Cortico Basal Degeneration] called The PSP Association[http://www.pspeur.org/]
One of the best moments was praying for all of you who had supported me when I arrived in the Cathedral at Santiago and had to wait about an hour for the Pilgrim's Mass at midday. That was a very special time as I thought of friends and family, PSP sufferers and carers.
Our day started at 6.00 a.m so we could walk in the cool. It was dark and we needed head torches for a while. Then the dawn began to break illuminating everything with such intensity. One morning the bark on the trees in a wood looked as though they were set on fire with the rays of the rising sun. The countryside reminded me of Wales and Scotland and down in the valleys of Devon. There was heather and gorse on the moorland, fantastic oak trees and clear streams and rivers. The people running the hostels were always hospitable and the places were clean with hot showers. Fellow pilgrims were from about 20 different nationalities, and of all ages. The friendship was great and restored one's faith in humanity. I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who has a week or more to spare. Five or six week ideally to complete the Camino Frances, but even a week would be worth it.
Thank you enormously for your support. If you want to know more let me know!
This page is dedicated to The PSP Association, which was established in 1994 and is the only UK charity supporting people afflicted by either PSP or CBD and their families / carers. Tragically there is not only no cure, there is no treatment and they are both illnesses which rob people of their ability to walk, talk, drink, eat and see, yet their minds stay mentally alert. It is vital that money is put into research to find treatments for both illnesses, and also to help support those dying, and their families, now.
