After last years overwhelming success Yuda and I have decided to organise another sponsered walk, raising money, for UCH Hospital. This is our way of thanking them for the amazing support they have given us over the last number of years. Last year we managed to raise an amazing £10,000 and we are hoping to match or even better that this year. Thank you so much for your generosity  it really means a lot to us.

A minimum recommended donation is £100 per family if your attending  the walk. However,  if you are unable to come please donate what ever you are comfortable with. 

It would be great if you could donate before the Charity walk on the Sunday 18th October 2009.

Information about Clinical Trials – We participate in a large number of trials in both soft tissue and bone sarcomas, both those that have been developed here at UCLH and others which are done in collaboration with sarcoma experts from other specialist centres in Europe and elsewhere. This is a vital part of our work to improve treatments. It is increasingly difficult to sustain because of regulatory requirements and, pleasingly, the growing number of new treatments which need to be tested. Currently charitable sources of funding support two research posts (a research nurse and a data manager) which are vital to our work and need to be continued. Reducing chemotherapy side effects – we are conducting a unique study to investigate a new drug which may reduce the toxicity of high dose methotrexate, a vital drug in the treatment of osteosarcoma. Identifying links between treatment side effects and treatment response – we are studying why some patients get more severe side-effects from chemotherapy, and trying to link this to how well chemotherapy works. We hope that these studies of pharmocogenetics will be vital in creating individualised treatment programmes for individual patients which will be more effective in the future. Understanding the biology of bone sarcomas – we are fortunate to have a range of laboratory research studies investigating the biology of bone sarcomas. These studies will hopefully identify new targets for treatment and hence more effective treatments. Improving outcomes for young people with cancer – we treat a large proportion of young people at UCLH, many of whom are affected by sarcoma. A growing team of researchers are looking at ways to refined specialist cancer care for young people.
