Story
On Tuesday 29th April 2014, players from the Metropolitan Police RFC are completing this unique event help raise money and awareness for The Children’s Trust, Tadworth. The will be running from New Scotland Yard to Brighton Pier supported by Volunteer Cadets.
This run is no mean feat! The team will be doing the full 60 miles in relay and will take on the challenge of Ditchling Beacon in the process.Established in 1923, the MPRFC is now celebrating its 90th Anniversary Season by planning several special events, including the first ever rugby match between The Metropolitan Police and the NYPD, which will be played in New York City on 12th June 2014.
Concussion and brain injury during sport is at the forefront of medical minds and the MPRFC. One of our runners had to deal with brain injury personally at the beginning of the 2013/14 season. After a tackle, Met Police player Laurence Bolton was left with two bleeds on his brain. During his stay in St Georges Hospital in Tooting he underwent surgery followed by long road of recovery. Thankfully, he has been given the all clear and he is delighted to play rugby again after his return to full health.
As a result, the MPRFC has adopted The Children’s Trust as their charity for their Tour to New York and this event is our way of raising funds for them. They are the UK's leading charity for children with brain injury and they work with children and young people from across the world. Their work resonates perfectly with us as a club and our objectives are to raise awareness of their work, raise as much funds as we can and send a message to the sporting world of the dangers of sports related concussion/brain injuries.
Please donate whatever you can in support of the team’s efforts and a fantastic charity.
Thank you.
