My story

Important:  This lecture has now been moved to the 25th November 2010.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

Microlife UK will be hosting the Inaugural WatchBP Midwifery Lecture in aid of Maternity Worldwide on the 25th November 2010 at Imperial College, Kensington, London at 6.30pm (for 7pm).  The guest speaker at this inaugural event will be Professor Andrew Shennan of St. Thomas' Hospital and a trustee of the charity Maternity Worldwide.  The subject:

Can measuring Blood Pressure impact on global maternal mortality?

60,000 women a year die from diseases related to hypertension in pregnancy; a significant proportion of all maternal deaths. Most of these women have no access to BP measurement, a simple way to identify those at risk. Birth of the baby will cure the condition, a relatively cheap "treatment" even in the poorest environments. New technology allows simple, accurate and cheap BP measurement, even by untrained individuals.

This could impact on all pregnancy care throughout the world. Would you like to know how this could be used in your practice? Would you like to be involved in the international efforts to reduce mortality in pregnancy?

Come and find out more.

The seminar will be free to attend, however, in order to ensure a registered place place we ask that you make a minimum £5 donation to Maternity Worldwide.  This can be made via this site.  Please include your email address so that we can send you all details of the lecture.  Please feel free to donate more as this will help support the vital work of Maternity Worldwide.

For enquiries please contact or to book without donation please email mmwlecture@gmail.com.

The venue for the lecture is:

The Alexander Fleming Building

Maternity Worldwide has a vision of a world in which all women and their babies are able to access safe and appropriate childbirth regardless of where they live. We exist to reduce mortality and injury associated with childbirth in Sub-Saharan Africa where the risk of dying in childbirth is highest.
