BUPA Great North Run 2013 · 15 September 2013 ·

When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission: to grant the Wishes of children living with a life threatening illness. Wishes have the power to transform the lives of children and families. Since 1990, we have proudly granted over 19,000 Wishes across the UK. We'd love you to be part of the magic!

Story

My dad Colin Watson and I are taking part in the Great North Run 2013 in memory of my brother Gary Watson, whilst raising money for a local charity Wish Upon A Star.  As many of my friends know I previously ran the Great North Run in 2009, however actually getting myself to the point were I can run again is going to be hard, never mind completing 13.1 miles in less time than I did before, which was 2hrs 33mins.  Therefore I am asking friends, family and colleagues for sponsors to give me a focus, and pledging to raise £300.00

Wish Upon A Star do a fab job, their main aim is to grant the wishes of children suffering from life threatening illnesses, up to now they have granted over 14500 wishes!! - So please every penny can make a difference

As I said I will be running in memory of my gorgeous much loved brother Gary Watson, who took his own life in 2007 aged just 21. Gary was in a bad place on the evening he died, when we were told of the events that lead up to his death as a family we were devastated. To lose my lovely gorgeous brother knowing that he was in a bad enough place to make that decision was the worst feeling in the world.

However I try to focus on the positives and remember Gary being so funny and loving. He was very fit, enjoyed skiing and running, I know he would have loved to have taken part in the GNR and would be especially proud of my Dad and I for doing it.
