I've had another of my moments of madness and this time I've decided to enter this year's New York marathon which is on ...... Sunday 1st November!!!
As I'm going to drag myself around 26.2 (don't forget the 0.2!) miles I figured it made sense to try and raise some funds for Capability Scotland. I became involved with the charity after the birth of my nephew Archie who has cerebral palsy. The condition is due to damage to the brain which results in the brain not being able to clearly send messages to the limbs. The degree of disability varies from individuals but in all cases the condition is irreversible.
Capability Scotland works throughout Scotland to provide education, employment and support services to children, young people and adults with disabilites. The services offered range from basic teaching aids to permanent accomodation. The charity also works with the families of those affected to help them understand and deal with disability. Although Archie lives with his family in Australia and hasn't been involved with Capablity Scotland I can personally see how important their work is.
So while you're having a lazy day on Sunday please spare a thought for those who aren't quite as fortunate as us.
Any donation you make will be very gratefully received and well used by Capablity Scotland.
thanks
Mairi
