Hello from Rhys. I hope you like my picture, I smile and laugh a lot............
I am raising money for Perthes Disease.
Perthes affects lots of people, young and old alike. It can have quite a big impact on those that have it and their families too as it affects our ability to walk properly. Our hip bones were not formed properly when we were very little and this can mean that we limp or can't walk properly.
Some are lucky and just grow out of it and I'm hoping very much that I will grow out of it too. But for me and for others who have it, it means having lots of physio and hydrotherapy, doing exercises every night to improve the joint and in a lot of instances, having to wear a horrible cast on both legs to help the bone grow and develop. This can be very boring when you are little. I'm not allowed to run, jump or do anything that may affect my hips ability to get better.
The Perthes association helps by providing support to those who have Perthes and also to their families. For example, they can provide bikes and toys that are especially adapted for little ones, which means that they can play, without making their condition worse. There are even bikes that we can pedal with our hands, instead of our legs.
My Mommy and family and friends are helping me to raise as much money as possible and my Aunty Mandy has helped me to set up this page.
So far, we have had a pub quiz and quite a few donated prizes. On Saturday 5th December, 2009 there is going to be a big party, with live music from a local, very talented musician called Nick who is part of a group that was recently on Radio 1's unsigned bands.
The band is called 'Room for two' and I know they will be famous one day.
See them at................http://www.myspace.com/aroomfortwomusic
If you would like to come along, it will be at the Dog Inn, Water Orton, from 7.30pm onwards on Saturday 5th December.
If you donate your pennies or pounds to help me raise £2000 that would be fantastic.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thanks for helping me to help those with Perthes, it means a lot to me.
A big smile & giggles, from Rhys Parr x
