Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to run for two extremely worthwhile charities in the London marathon next year. Help the Hospices and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
Help the Hospices are a national charity that undertake some of the most amazing work for all manner and ages of people across the UK. Without them life would be a lot more trying, in already difficult circumstances.
As some of you may know, very close friends of ours had a little baby boy who has spent much of his early life in Great Ormond Street. He is a fantastic example to all of us, in the courageous and determined way he lives his life. He approaches everything with an enthusiasm that is humbling to those of us adults privileged to be around him. Most importantly, the little man always has a smile on his face. Genuinely, the bravest person I have ever met - a true little hero.
'RoJo was born with a small receded jaw, a cleft palate, no stomach and a dangerous swallow. He arrived at Great Ormond Street Hospital when he was 3 days old and spent his first 3 months having the conditions stabilised by the doctors and nursing staff. He now breathes via a tracheostomy, an artificial airway, is fed entirely by a tube directly into his intestine and uses sign language to communicate. In his 3 years, he has endured 10 operations, many more anaesthetised procedures, and spent time at the hospital having other treatment when suffering sickness, pneumonia or dehydration.
Despite all this he is a happy, bright boy, able to live a 'normal' life at home alongside his two sisters. He is very popular at his preschool and can ride his bike (without stabilisers!) and do flips on the trampoline! Things would be very different without the expertise and dedication of everyone at Great Ormond Street Hospital and we are incredibly lucky that RoJo is under their care.' Rojo's Mum!
